No. 11. Glass and Cherry Tomatoes

I had a busy last few days, so I didn't get a chance to post up studies as I finished them. I was pleased with myself after completing this without getting too detailed. I wanted to keep it loose and impressionistic and I had bought a few new brushes that I thought might help me to do that. They're ProArte 'Stirling' -soft, bright, nylon brushes. I hoped they might encourage me to loosen up but they didn't say anything.

No. 10. Fishing for Oranges

SOLD

I was mooching around the house looking for objects to paint when I spied this plate among the other cracked crockery in the kitchen. I like the dark blue reflective glaze and the pattern of the fish. I think we got it in Turkey.
Oil on canvas board. 8" x 6".

No. 9. Candle and Cherry Tomatoes

My wife arrived home with yet another candle holder! Still, it's an attractive green and sets off the red of the cherry tomatoes nicely. I set this one up on my kitchen table, in the evening. I have to use water-miscible oils in the house to avoid the turps fumes. I also had an anglepoise lamp with a daylight bulb to light the arrangement. I did find that my eyes became tired very quickly, though. 6" x 4" canvas textured board.

No. 8. Avocado and Onions

Trying to simplify. This Avocado came straight from the local supermarket and will be consumed directly after painting in a frenzy of salad-related gluttony.

6"x 8" canvas textured board.

No. 7. Bluebottle

Such a long time since I posted. I took a fancy to regenerate my enthusiasm to do a little painting every day. So difficult when you're actually painting every day. Work that one out. Anyway, this took about an hour. It's painted in oils on a 6"x8" canvas board.

And below is the simple set up in my studio.
